Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a form of natural healthcare that focuses on the spine and other joints of the body and how they connect to the nervous system. The word “chiropractic” means “to be done by hand.” Chiropractors use adjustments to reestablish joint function and support the nervous system. Dr Kathy Knight began practicing in 2000. She then opened Universal Chiropractic in 2005. She demonstrates considerable experience using an array of techniques.

Our Customised Approach

The care at Universal Chiropractic is always personalised, never a cookie-cutter or one-size-fits-all approach. Our chiropractor creates care plans that are particularly tailored to each client. We use appropriate techniques depending on each client’s concern, age and health.

Appropriate for All Ages

At our Canberra practice, we care for patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors and everyone between. Rest assured that we would never adjust an infant as we would an adult. While a baby would be adjusted by applying very light pressure, an adult in robust health would have more appropriate pressure applied.

What conditions does chiropractic treat?

It’s important to understand that chiropractic doesn’t treat everything. However, by correcting issues such as misaligned, stiff or weakened joints in the spine and throughout the body, chiropractic adjustments can set the stage for your body to heal itself. When that happens, many people experience less pain and improved function.

What kind of pressure do you use to adjust an infant?

For infants, we would use light fingertip pressure—about the same that you’d use if you’d put pressure on your eyeball..

How do you help children feel comfortable?

We have a calm and welcoming environment that’s very kid-friendly. Many children love coming in to get care because they enjoy our fun and lighthearted atmosphere. Kathy will only proceed when your child is comfortable. We encourage mums and dads to hold their child close during their assessment to provide reassurance in case their child is nervous.

Is a forceful adjustment necessary to make a correction?

No, not at all. Our approach is to use as little force as possible to achieve results. This may include manual adjusting as required. A gentle approach is aimed at not overwhelming the nervous system, and sufficient for clients to make progress.
